Tirana Municipality is putting the water up for sale with Euro 5 million
Private companies which earn an average of 10 - 15% or much less to big oil or distribution companies would envy the gross profit rate of about 23% in 2015 of Tirana Water Supply Service. Water Supply Service of Tirana, which is expected to be put up for sale as per the statement made two days ago by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has realized a pre-tax profit of ALL 686 million (around Euro 5 million) in 2015, according to the taxation records, with profits rising of 30% compared with 2014. Tirana Water Supply Service was ranked the 22 nd among the 200 companies that achieved the biggest profits in the country in 2015 and the 4 th among the state-owned companies. According to the taxation records only state energy companies, i.e., OSHEE, KESH and OST have achieved higher values than Tirana water supply service. UKT Sh.A of Tirana realized a turnover of around ALL 3 billion in 2015, or Euro 22 million, according to the taxation records. The company had an annual turnover growth of 2% compared with 2014. Tirana Municipality owns 82.5% of shares of the water - canalization utility of Tirana. Kamza Municipality has 14.6% and Vora Municipality has 2.9%. According to the balance sheet of 2014, the value of long-term material financial assets amounts ALL 11.3 billion or about Euro 80 million. The Water Supply Service has a long-term loan of ALL 5.7 billion, according to the balance sheet of 2014. In the end of 2014 its capital was ALL 6.7 billion (Euro 48 million) (including the profits of2014). The Water Supply Service of Tirana is the largest operator of the field. Until the year 1939 Tirana was supplied with water from its own wells. In 1939, with the completion of the city center of Tirana (building of ministries and the promenade "Martyrs of the Nation"), there was put into operation the plant for cleaning of water in Brar, which took water in Tirana river near the cataract with a flow of 40 liters per second together with the network
that supplies the objects that were built. In 1951, in addition to the Brar plant there were established in the city of Tirana Selita resources, which once processed at Lana-Bregas hydropower they are distributed in the stores of Tirana.
